Where AI Has Actually Landed in Pool Service
Running a pool route means being unreachable most of the day. Calls arrive while your hands are inside a filter or a pump housing - and a missed call here is usually a homeowner dialling the next company on the list.
That single fact explains where AI has landed in pool service software: not in chat windows or dashboards, but in the phone line, the route and the invoice.
Eight platforms a pool service business can buy today, with the prices their own websites publish.
Why the Phone Is the AI That Matters Here
A pool visit compresses a lot of work into half an hour. Nobody is in the office, so new enquiries go to voicemail and existing customers get no answer either.
Three platforms below sell an AI line that answers inbound calls. One charges a $99 add-on, one folds it into a flat plan, one prices it per pool. Route optimisation, by contrast, is usually sold as scheduling rather than as AI.
1. Skimmer โ Per-Pool Pricing, AI Phone as an Add-On
Skimmer is the platform most pool companies meet first. It covers routes, water chemistry, invoicing, autopay and a technician app, with unlimited technicians and admins on both paid plans.
Pricing is per serviced location: Getting Started $1.00 per location with a $49 minimum (0-49 pools), Scaling Up $2.00 per location with a $98 minimum (50-1,000 pools). AI Phone is sold as a $99/month add-on - its product page which the vendor describes as a 24/7 AI phone agent that answers calls with your real business data and recognises existing customers. Marketing Suite is $150/month and bookkeeping from $198/month.
Why it made the list: AI priced as a separate line item rather than bundled into the plan.
2. Pool Founder โ Flat Per-Technician Pricing and an AI Line
Pool Founder is a newer entrant built by someone who ran routes, and its feature list reads like it: route building by drive time, water chemistry with dose calculations, offline tech app, invoices and QuickBooks sync.
Plans are Solo $49, Team $99, Growth $179 and Company $249 per month, priced by technician count, with annual billing giving two months free. It states plainly that there are no per-pool fees - the opposite of Skimmer's model. Its AI is named twice: an AI line that answers the phone while you are on a pool, plus George, an assistant you address in plain English to find a customer or check who is on route. Route building is sold as scheduling, not AI.
Why it made the list: the only platform here pairing a real AI phone line with per-technician pricing.
3. Paythepoolman โ Billing First, and No AI Claim
Paythepoolman leads with money: invoices, online payment collection, bids, GPS tracking, a customer app and payroll. Route optimisation is on the feature list, described as one-click rather than as machine learning.
Pricing is $50 per month plus $15 per technician with a 30-day free trial - stated in the site's structured data as well as the page copy. Extra employees are $12/month and card transactions $1.50. See paythepoolman.com for the current add-on table.
Why it made the list: the cheapest route to real pool billing, and it does not pretend to be AI.
4. Pool Service Software โ a Free Tier and a Per-Property Ramp
A smaller, plainer option for shops that want scheduling, jobs, quoting, invoicing and payments without a sales conversation first. There is no AI feature named anywhere on its own site.
The Free plan covers up to 10 properties with the feature set intact. Dive In is $49.99/month for 11-50 properties, Ripple Effect $99/month for 51-100, and Wave Maker falls to $0.95 per property above 100. Prices sit on the homepage at poolservice.software; the /pricing route itself returns a 404.
Why it made the list: a free tier a solo operator can actually run, and the lowest per-property rate here.
5. Pool Brain โ Per-Technician Pricing With No AI Claims
Pool Brain handles routing, scheduling, chemical dosing, billing and technician scorecards, and is pitched at companies that are past the solo stage but not yet running a fleet.
The licence is $65 per active field technician per month, including unlimited office users. The office portion of that fee comes from the site's own calculator rather than printed text, so the base amount cannot be quoted - check it at poolbrain.com. A free trial is offered and setup is included.
Why it made the list: a clean per-technician price with no AI upsell - a baseline for judging AI costs elsewhere.
6. Evosus (LOU) โ the Back Office, Licensed Per User
Evosus sells LOU, the back-office software behind many pool and spa retailers: inventory, pricing tiers, customer records and supplier ordering. It is the retail side of the trade rather than the route side.
Licences are monthly and per user. Foundation is $19, Retail $49, Service $49 and Retail + Service $79 on a limited licence; on unlimited users those become $19, $79, $79 and $99, with Mobile Only at $39. One-time sign-up is $1,999 on Pro and $4,999 on Enterprise. AI appears in one place on the pricing page: an ecommerce add-on that includes AI to help write product descriptions.
Why it made the list: it shows how narrow AI still is on the retail side.
7. PoolDial โ $2 a Pool With an AI Receptionist
PoolDial is built around the phone. Alongside scheduling, e-signed agreements and billing, it lists an AI Receptionist that answers calls and books jobs 24/7, plus an assistant named Cody.
Pricing is $2 per active pool with a $40 monthly minimum and no per-user charge - a 60-pool route pays about $120/month with the AI receptionist included. Details at pooldial.com.
Why it made the list: the cheapest AI phone line here, bundled rather than metered.
8. Fieldproxy โ AI-Native, but There Is No Public Price
Fieldproxy is AI-native field service software with a pool-service vertical. Its own description is the fullest statement of what agents do here: they answer calls, texts and email, book new pools and repairs, rebuild route days when a tech is out and draft monthly invoices.
Plans are Starter, Core, Growth and Scale, sized by jobs per month - 100, 300, 750 and 1,500 - with unlimited users, metered by AI credits. AI phone calls consume the most at 0.35 credits a minute. No monthly figure is readable on the pricing page, so treat it as quote-only until you have a number in writing.
Why it made the list: the clearest picture of where this market is heading - and its credit meter is a warning about how that value gets billed.
Three Pricing Units, and When Each One Hurts
These eight platforms disagree on what to charge for, and the unit decides which bill grows fastest.
- Per serviced pool โ Skimmer at $1โ$2 a location, Pool Service Software at $0.95 above 100 properties, PoolDial at $2 a pool. Cheap at 40 pools, expensive at 400.
- Per technician โ Pool Founder at $49โ$249, Pool Brain at $65, Paythepoolman at a $50 base plus $15 a technician. Your bill rises when you hire rather than when you win work.
- Per user licence โ Evosus at $19โ$99 a user. The only model here that charges the office rather than the route.
- Add-ons on top โ Skimmer's AI Phone at $99/month, Marketing Suite at $150 and bookkeeping from $198. A low headline price says nothing about the total.
The useful question is not which platform is cheapest today but which is cheapest at the size you expect to reach next year.
How to Choose Without Sitting Through Eight Demos
Start with the phone. If missed calls cost you work, the AI line is the only feature here with an obvious revenue number attached: $99/month as a Skimmer add-on, included in PoolDial's $2 a pool, and inside Pool Founder's flat plan.
Then use the trials before you talk to anyone. Pool Service Software's free plan covers 10 properties, Skimmer gives a month of Scaling Up, Pool Founder offers 30 days, and Paythepoolman and Pool Brain both run trials.
Finally, ask what leaves with you. Pool Founder imports your customer list free, and Fieldproxy advertises moving customers, pools and route days in under a day. Route history and chemistry logs are the records you cannot rebuild.
The Honest Takeaway
Pool service is a better fit for AI than most trades: the work is offline, repetitive and route-based. But the AI actually shipping here is narrow - a phone line, a route, an invoice, a product description.
Under about 50 pools the arithmetic is simple: PoolDial at $2 a pool, or a free tier plus Skimmer's $99 AI Phone, lands near $100 a month. Above 200 pools the per-pool models get expensive and per-technician plans become the cheaper end of the market.
